iTunes problems and then a fix via QuickTime!

| 75 Comments | 0 TrackBacks

My windows machine garbled the music played on iTunes. I originally posted that I liked the program, however, I discoverd that after 1 minute 40 seconds of play time, the output became unlistenable. I assumed first that it was a buffer problem and read lots of newsgroups to discover an answer. NONE! Finally, on the Apple site, someone made a reference to quicktime settings. Quicktime and iTunes are linked and iTunes borrows functionality from Quicktime. So I adjusted the preferences in Quicktime and the program works as I would expect. Now, however, it is the quality of MP3s and AAC files that I have to worry about. Neither format is satisfactory.

How are we supposed to change the settings for Quicktime? so the music isn't garbeled when using Itunes?

My Itunes worked well at first but now it keeps stopping after playing 5-10 tracks, sometimes I can skip to the next track but other times I have to reboot machine. I have reloaded software and update from internet but problem is still there. Can anybody help.

open quick time - click on edit - preferences - quick time settings - click the top arrow - navigate to sound out - select wave out

that should clear it up

This garbled music from itunes has been driving me nuts. Especially when recording music. Thanks Ralph, for that easy fix via Quicktime Preferences. You made my Mac experience an enjoyable one again.

Hi there, for some reason my itunes wont open and keeps coming up with a message stating that the Itunes music library file cannot be read becaues it does not appear to be a valid library file... any ideas

I've been downloading tracks successfully from ITunes, until now. Although I can access the ITunes (UK) site, see all the tracks, and listen to clips, when I click on the purchase option, after prompting for my password, I get a message "cannot access ITunes - please check whether you're connected online (or words to that effect!). Of course, I definitely am connected. Any suggestions as to whats going wrong?

When ripping from a cd to itunes everything is ok until track 12 but then after that it cant read the disk properly and then obviously can't label them??

Hi,
I recently got my iPod. It took me a while
to get iTunes working. It works now but is
very slow. It takes nearly an hour to import
a cd to the library.
I've already checked in Edit-Preferences-
Importing and made sure it was on high and
the use error correction is unchecked.
What else can I do?

do you happen to know how to rid my itunes of those exclamation points that frequently appear next to song options in the library? most songs on my itunes have this. they wont play on repeat or shuffle. it's as if they are gone. sometimes i get a message that the source cant be found.

thanks

I can't open Itunes because it says that my "itunes library file does not appear compatible with the itunes program"...nothing has changed since the last time i loaded itunes, any suggestions?

I can't download the new version of iTunes from the iTunes website or access my account in the music store. To make matters worse, I cant listen to any of my purchased music because i cant sign in.

Any ideas?

After getting a new HP for christmas my HP ipod shut down I got a new one from HP and installed itunes from my start up CD. I bought an itunes 15 doller card at target store and downloaded music from there itunes music site it played on my itunes music player and uploaded to my ipod only problem was it showed up on my ipod screen but did not play the sound, the song titles skipped by all my downloaded i tunes music store songs?. I found that hp ipod's start up disc from my first ipod is no longer valid. You should download the itunes from there site and there updates DO NOT RUN THEM save them onto desktop first... then run them. the IPOD UPDATER first and restart your ipod to factory settings then run itunes music, then run i pod update updater... downloads are @ apple.com. HP admitted there was a problem with there new IPOD's updating to there old install disc. do not load from there install disc load from there web site apple downloads

Angus

When starting over after problems with your HP Ipod for xp.THE easy problem solver is to:..... go to start menu, contol panel, then add/remove programs. Uninstall ipod updater, then...itunes, then... quick time.... THEN download Itunes from apple web page as well as updater for ipod, your problems will be gone.
MAKE SURE you download the right one for your computer XP apple or whatever it gives you a option. My advise is for HP IPODS ONLY see below for installing software from APPLE'S WEB PAGE.

Itunes error code 3221. Any ideas to resolve will be greatly appreciated. The Apple people are not helpful.

I have been having trouble when I try to open up Itunes and a pop up window says that Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. So when I try and uninstall Itunes it won't let me. Any thoughts on how to completely start from scratch if it won't let me uninstall? I would appreciate any advice.

I can not drag songs from my iTunes library to a playlist. Any suggestions?

hey i just got a nano, and i installed ipod updater & itunes. problem is, when i try to start the itunes program nothing happens. in my task manager it is listed as one of the processes running, but not one of the applications. when i try to open a cd or mp3 with itunes, nothing happens. i rebooted, uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted, etc...nothing happens. what's going on??? thanks so much for any help!

When i try to play songs from a CD or import it will either play a second or two of each song or only import a few seconds of each song

Do you know how to fix this?

i can’t get itunes loaded or running… i can’t make it to do anything! i double cliick the icon the shortcut, everything, and it still doesn’t start! i can’t load any music to my ipod because i can’t start itunes, and my ipod is now doing nothing but to get dusty… i have already uninstalled and reinstalled everything twice, done everything i could think of but it still won’t work! i have already thought it might be because of some other software in my pc but i’m not sure and even if it it is i can’t now which program is causing the itunes’ problems. please help!!!

Yeah come on Ralph. Why say you're posting a solution and then not post a solution.

The solution you posted is like you asking me where a certain store is that I talked about and then me saying "oh, it's in Cleveland somewhere".

Don't worry though, gsjanen fixed your post...

Hi,
i just got an iPod nano for christmas.
The actual iPod is fine, it's just my iTunes + QuikTime just wont install. it says something about an error..
what could cause this?
Thanks :-)

Something is wrong with my itunes. Every time i click on it to try to open it, nothing happens. When i try to open quicktime it opens for a second and then just disappears. so i'm not able to access itunes or quicktime. i've uninstalled both programs and reinstalled them and i'm still having the same problem. How can it be fixed?

Bought the ipod nano, downloaded the software, now i can't play or import cd's, the disc drive begins but then runs out of steam. i removed the programme and installed direct from the apple site but still getting no joy. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I just bought my new ipod nano. On the first day when i installed my iTunes, it was working fine. But now after a month when i tried to open it nothing happens. i have done everyhting from reinstalling it 4 times!! and rebooting my comp and i even deleted my norton and any firewall that might be blocking it. But still i cant open it plz help me my ipod nano is of no use now!
THNX-

I have been getting real aggrivated with Apple. When I try and open up iTunes or Quicktime..NOTHING HAPPENS..on top of that, the Apple site won't supply me with a service email or number I could contact...I WILL NEVER BUY AN APPLE!

Hi, I have a MAC and have installed two CD's. The next CD that I installed, did not list the artist nor the name of the CD. HELP

I loaded iTunes onto my windows computer this past weekend, imported all my MP3s that were already on my computer and all my music sounded fine. Last night I was adding album art to my songs and after 20 minutes of doing this, I noticed the any song I listened to in iTunes would skip (like a cd would skip). I then listened to the songs I purchased in iTunes and they skipped as well. I inserted a music CD into my computer and the sound was the same - skipping/garbled. I further found out that any sound that came out of my computer (for example when it starts up or shuts down) will skip and be garbled. No idea what's going on now. Thanks for any help!

I had the same problem as described in the initial post. I use WinXP and was able to fix it as well. I opened QuickTime, but do not believe it is necessarily the settings in QuickTime that did the trick, rather the built in settings via Windows, which QuickTime lead me to. If you are experiencing issues like those described above, then try these steps:
1) From Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices click the "Audio" tab.
2) From the "Sound Playback" section, determine what your playback device should be. If you don't know or aren't sure you'll need to experiment.

After setting the playback to my SoundMax device, I could accurately listen to my music. I have other drivers installed, Replay Music and Tunebite Highspeed dubbing. You may also have similar device drivers selected, causing your audio playback to sound distored.

Good luck!

I had itunes on my computer and used it for over a year with no problems..well I just bought the ipod nano and downloaded the software that came with it, used it once, and now I can't even open itunes. It says something about an error. I've removed the program several times and reinstalled, I don't know what else to do! Please help!! What good is a ipod with no songs??

I am having problems with my library... I have 2 and the one only opens when I plug in my ipod and all my 347 songs come up, but they are light and does not let me click on them. I have my other library with 200 songs on it, ones I playd from my old library and it added them on... main thing is I can not locate all my files.. it's a big mess. Any way to import the songs that are on my ipod currently INTO my new library??

Please help!! I bought an external hard drive to save my itunes files. My secretary copied them and then saved the files to the external hard drive. No, itunes won't recognize my ipod. I have (per itunes tech support) restored my ipod, once regularly and once with the ipod in disk drive, but still I can't get any songs to update to the ipod. In fact, each time I plug in the ipod I have to go through the ipod setup assistant.

My music is still all on itunes, and it is playing through the computer...

I recently reloaded my computer. When I loaded up itunes from either the website or the CD ROM everytime I active the program....my computer reboots. Does anyone have any ideas..it happens everytime.

Whenever I go to open iTunes, a message pops up telling me:

iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Then it gives me an option to send an error report and to not send an error report.

A friend of mine had a similar problem, and his solution was to format. With over 26GB of music, i really don't want the hassle of backing up & re-installing everything. Several people have posted this problem before but i don't see any answers... Any solutions?
