I fixed the registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs an DVDs

All of sudden, and I don't know why, my Windows version of iTunes 4.6 stopped recognizing the CD drive and would not play or import CDs. The Apple Support site was useless. So....I've been researching this for some time and finally I discoverd an answer. Here is the error message that kept coming up:

registry-values-used-by-itu

Then I got this much more "Severe" error when I tried to reload the app:

1st-error-message-in-itunes

And finally I got a clue:

itunes-install-GEAR-error-m

iTunes uses Gear Software drivers to read and write to CDs.

You can find the updated drivers at GEAR Drivers

Downloading and installing these drivers fixed my problem!

Incidentally this fix works perfectly for anyone who's had the same "registry settings used by the iTunes drivers" warning after installing other CD burning software. I installed Roxio and it over wrote iTunes ability to burn and import tracks. I thought i would have to reinstall the whole programme until i saw this post. Thanks very much!

Cheers! my pc was riddled with problems and once i got windowsxp back on its feet - this fix was useful to get my iTunes back on its feet too :-) good job mate!

Hey, I tried to install the GEAR drivers (there are two on the website btw??) They both give me

16 bit Windows Subsystem
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
[CLOSE][IGNORE]

I chose ignore and wasn't sure if the drivers were installed...iTunes continues to have the problem. So I goto uninstall iTunes and it won't uninstall!!! I click remove from Add/Remove Prgms control panel and an install shield window briefly appears and goes away. Nothing happens iTunes stays there...

Any advice????

Spot on mate. Thanks for doing the research for me ;-)

Many thanks - I did a fresh install of XP and iTunes this weekend and had this problem. This fixed it right up.

Thanks Ralph, worked a peach!

Thanks alot. The Apple support site is useless. Solved my problem after installing Easy CD Creator. Thanks again.

That above posted link doesnt seem to work anymore. Here is the new link to thier downloads.

Downloading the first one listed (NOT the beta versions) worked like a champ

A year and a half later and this problem still surfaces, and this driver update still fixes it. Props!

Thanks guys, you rock! You fixed my itunes!

Thanks. This fixed my problem

EXCELLENT help!!!!

Thank for the info!!!!

I only spent 5 minutes or less on trying to reinstall itunes three times.....googled this site ......ran the driver progam and BAM....my problem is FIXED!!!!

THANK YOU!!!

Many Thanks. Excellent help. After installing the most recent iTunes 6.04 update (March 2006) I got the error message: "Registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing". Repeated installation didn't help. I downloaded the first one (Gear-)driver_installer.exe-file. Not the beta version. The file has to be expanded (opend) with WINZIP first. After running the (Gear-)driver installer the error message after opening iTunes 6.04 disappeared. An e-mail to Apple wasn't answered. Forget Apple support

Hi,
I'm a Dell tech and got a call from a customer with the same issue. A prompt googling with the error message brought me here and the fix worked like a charm.
Thanks.

Sumit.

I was and maybe still am having the problem with registry settings. I downloaded some driver installation from gearsoftware. I think the problem is fixed. But now I get this error message" iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. An unknown error occured (-3221). Make sure your network connection is active and try again. OK"
Since I'm a novice at this kind of stuff, I have no idea what this means.
Please help!

Hey, ive had the same problem. When i try to import songs from cds it rushes through them and they go for about.7 seconds.

I tried installing the gear drivers but im still having the same problem, Anyone got any ideas????
